My Approach

My work is influenced by many diverse philosophies and is constantly evolving. I have used many different therapeutic approaches and consider myself more of an "eclectic" therapist as every client is different. I have found that what works with one person or family doesn't always work for another.

Primarily, I use Self Psychology, Systems Theory, Psychodynamic, Family of Origin and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. When I work with families, I draw heavily on my Family Systems training.

I have found great power in the use of transparency, empowerment models, motivational interviewing, relational work and strengths focus. I continue to add to my "tool belt" by exploring EMDR, mediation concepts, positive psychology and coaching techniques. I welcome any questions you may have about how we would work together.

What You Can Expect

I listen to you and your goals. Honoring your needs, helping you become more clear about what those needs are, and how to get your needs met throughout your session–and in your life–drives our work together. Expanding self-awareness leads to more conscious decision-making, clarity and confidence. That’s what I’m here to help you with. You can gain insight into how past limiting beliefs, habits, and patterns operate in your life and then how to build a new, healthy future for yourself.

My Experience and Credentials

I'd like to acknowledge some of my privileges before listing the traditional credentials: I am a cis man with class/economic privilege, straight sized, able bodied, neurotypical, and college educated. I am of European heritage born in Corvallis, Oregon. I acknowledge that I am currently living and practicing on the traditional territory of the Kalapuya Nation.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and have been a private practice clinician since 2002. After receiving my Masters in Social work at Portland State University, I spent several years with Options Counseling and The Child Center agencies, working with individuals and families with a wide range of needs.

Inspirations and Influences

One of the most influential people in my professional development has been my practice professor at Portland State University, Matt Modrcin PhD. I had the privilege of doing a two year post-graduate family-of-origin group with him. I’m grateful to my professional colleagues at The Child Center and Options Counseling who were also inspirational to me in my early work.

Personal Interests

Outside of work you will find me hiking and camping or swimming in Oregon’s beautiful rivers with my friends and family.
